They also learn that the Elector Primo, the leader of Republic, is dead and that his son Anden is the new elector.ĭay collapses in a square filled with soldiers but luckily enough, they are spotted by a hidden group of rebel Patriots and taken to see Razor, leader of the Patriots. When they finally arrive in Vegas, they learn from the Jumbotrons that the Republic is trying to convince everyone that Day had been executed. Day’s younger brother is still alive and in the hands of the Republic. Day is injured and emotionally upset due to the fact that his brother was executed in his place, an act of sacrifice that aided their escape. They had to travel alone to make it to Las Vegas where the rebel Patriots were presumed to be hiding. Prodigy picks up only a few days after June and Day have made their great escape and they are in rough shape. But June discovered the truth, approached the Patriots (a rebel group) for help, left her whole life behind, and planned a great escape during Day’s live broadcast execution.
They could bring June, the nation’s prodigy, into working status and she could catch Day for them. Metias was killed and Day, the nation’s most notorious criminal, was framed. They couldn’t have Metias, a Republic soldier, having doubts about their leadership. The rouse was an effort to enhance the genetics of the general population by eliminating the weak.Īfter June learns that Thomas is responsible for her brother’s death, she then learns that the orders came from the Republic leaders. Instead, they were sent to hospitals, experimented upon and systematically killed in an effort to cull the population. It was thought that the lowest test scorers were sent to slave camps and never heard from again. Her brother Metias, a Republic soldier, had hacked into a Republic database of deceased citizens and discovered that their parents had been murdered for being opponents to the way the Republic culled its citizens – a project surreptitiously done through the Trials. In fact, it was her brother’s best friend and love interest Thomas who was responsible, and that was only the tip of the iceberg. If you’re considering reading this trilogy and haven’t had the chance to finish the first book in the series, you might want to skip this review until you’ve had the chance to catch up. Sometimes the second book in a trilogy can be a bit of a downer, but not Prodigy.
